Battle Of Jakku Maps Launch Today For Star Wars Battlefront With Chaotic Launch Trailer

With just over two weeks to go until The Force Awakens arrives, hype levels are hitting warp speed. DICE is capitalising on this with the launch of some tie-in maps for Star Wars: Battlefront, available free today for those who pre-ordered the base game. The rest of us with a bit a patience will have to wait until December 8th to unleash blaster hell.

EA and DICE have pushed out a dramatic launch trailer for the DLC, depicting the magnificent Battle of Jakku, which takes places 29 years before the events of the upcoming movie. It brings with it a pair of new maps set on the rocky planet; one large scale and the other more intimate. The planet is going to be playable across all modes, but it also introduces the new Turning Point 40 player mode.
This game type has a team of Rebels trying to push back Imperials and take control points, with the eventual aim of capturing the Imperial base. The Imperials aren’t able to capture points so it’s all about digging in and fending off the Rebel scum until the clock ticks down.
Like anything Star Wars Battlefront it looks amazing, and it’ll certainly go some way into breathing new life in this admittedly content light multiplayer game. Turning point looks like it will an absolute spectacle, although I’m hoping for a little more tactical depth than we’ve seen so far with Walker Assault and Supremacy.

If you pre-ordered Star Wars Battlefront then you should have a code which will allow you to access the maps today. Failing that, they'll be released for everyone else on December 8th, free of charge.
