EA CFO Says Star Wars Battlefront May Lack Depth As It Was Targeted At 8-Year-Olds

In the first tacit admission from EA that Star Wars Battlefront isn’t the answer toBattlefield 4 players’ sci-fi prayers, Electronic Arts chief financial officer Blake Jorgenson said DICE’s online shooter was designed for ages eight and up. Which is a perplexing decision when it clearly says 16+ on the front of the box.

"We had designed it to be a much more accessible product to a wide age group," Jorgensen said. responding to claims that DICE had alienated hardcore shooter fans. "So, an eight-year-old could play with his father on the couch, as well as a teenager or 20-year-old could play the game and enjoy it. It is more accessible. And for the hardcore, it may not have the depth that they wanted in the game."
It’s quite a frank statement really, and certainly not doing Star Wars Battlefront any good. It’s worth noting though that Jorgenson doesn’t implicitly say Star Wars Battlefront is shallow, but rather it doesn’t have the depth you might expect from similar titles. There’s no denying there’s plenty more substance to DICE’s previous title Battlefield 4.
Jorgenson’s comments ring true with Jon’s review, who said “Star Wars Battlefront is the online shooter for gamers who don’t have hundreds of hours to invest in becoming a crack shot sniper. It’s a casual FPS (or TPS) and I really don’t think that’s a bad thing. If you think that means it’s not for you then it probably isn’t, but I’d say there’s definitely audience out there for something like this.” As it turns out that audience is eight-year-olds, but Jon definitely enjoyed it. I don't know what that means. 
Despite a slightly lacklustre reception, and already slipping behind Call of Duty: Black Ops III in the charts, EA still says it expects Star Wars Battlefront to shift 13 million copies of the online shooter by early 2016.
